The deep drawing process is our customers’ preferred metal forming method for manufacturing bearing components. Deep draw is an essential metal forming process for needle roller and ball bearings because of the technology’s ability to maintain:

We form higher carbon content steels and pre-plated materials for a range of bearing components and bearing assemblies for automotive and industrial OEM uses. Bearing deep drawn stamping requires us to work in dimensional tolerances as close as .0005 (.013mm), which we achieve through our machine capability and precise tooling design.

The surface finish of bearing components is especially critical because of the work load it bears once the bearing is fully assembled. At Prospect Machine, we consistently achieve deep drawing surface finishes that are free of score marks and burrs because we practice a high degree of tooling maintenance and vigilant inspection processes.

The uniformity of the wall thickness throughout the lengths of the cases and cups is essential to fit and function. The deep draw transfer press operation assures a uniform wall thickness as well as the reduction of variation required by our bearing deep drawn stamping customers. In addition, gages in our presses maintain concentricity of the outside dimension through contact measurements at different gage heights to maintain wall thickness uniformity. The data collected throughout these daily inspections is crucial to our SPC process for bearing and cup components.

Still another critical fit performed at the transfer press is needle insertion to check inside dimension conformance. Besides data collection, lot traceability is maintained on a weekly basis through embossed stamps applied in the transfer press process.
